The White Stuff...It's a Blessing!!!

I love this picture...Liam is about 5 years old and Teagan is 2. Marc-well-just a kid at heart!
But look at it...really look at it...what is it about snow that makes us all want to lift our faces
towards the heavens, open our mouths and try to catch some of that white stuff!!!!!!

Even Caeleen, our youngest, who hasn't even played in the snow much, when I carry her to the car and it is snowing-automatically lifts her head, opens her mouth and receives the white stuff with joy!!!

Somewhere between kid freedom and grown up responsiblities the white stuff can become less of a joy and more of a burden. Instead of lifting our head to catch some we must scrape it off our car windows, shovel steps so others don't slip, clean the sidewalks for passerbys. Imagine the sweat I break into while getting 7 children into snow gear only to have to take it all off again in 10 minutes when they are ready for their hot chocolate!! It is hard work. Still white stuff-it hasn't changed-but our perspective has changed and so has what we do with it and how we talk about it.

White stuff....When we moved to Ohio I was a bit afraid of the white stuff. Too much white stuff. But today, as the trees and streets are blanketed with it, I'm reminded of the blood of Christ. Covering my sins, washing them away and making me clean and new-WHITE AS SNOW!! "Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow." Psalm 51:7

When I first became a follower of Jesus Christ this news-this cleansing-this becoming whiter than snow was received with such joy! I lifted my head to the heavens, opened my mouth to sing praises to God! As I have grown in my faith and continued my walk with him-sometimes it is hard work! I must try to "Do everything without complaining or arguing" Philippians 2:14. Even...scraping ice off windows and shoveling snow!

Today when I go outside I'm going to think about the cleansing blood of Christ-how he has covered me and made me white as snow. I'm going to rejoice and lift my head to the heavens and giggle as I try to catch some of that white stuff!!!!

Have a snowy blessed day!

  1. Hi,
What a wonderful post. I myself love love love the snow - however, I remember when my kids were younger and the dressing and undressing...it was hard work! Now they are teens and I wish I could go back to those days..I think I would have appreciated them more....but now I appreciate your helping us to see the beauty in it. And how it does represent what Jesus did for us.
    Kisses,
