Mommy's Middle of the Night Math

Start with One Sweet Baby waking up and vomiting all night long

Multiply 1 sick child times 8 others in the house
Subtract 1 husband who never seems to catch stuff
Equals a good chance of 7 people throwing up this week
If Mommy gets it, multiply that number by, like, 20 because that's what it feels like if I am out of commission!
Collect and empty 8 trash cans-fill with clean bags ready for use....(yuck)
Add back in 3 still clean trash cans for the younger children who won't make it into them
Multiply those 3 times their three sets of sheets and blankets and pillows that got hit instead
Add to that number the giant pile of towels used to clean up and "catch" as needed
Add 8 sets of clothes for all
Subtract 2 school uniforms 2 won't need if home sick
Add at least 8 cool washcloths for foreheads
Equals an enormous amount of laundry to the already enormous mountain
add 2 hair scrunches for the girls long hair
Subtract some money from the account for "sick necessities" Daddy will pick up (saltines, gingerale)
Subtract quite a bit of sleep Mommy will miss this week
Almost subtract one laptop that I am typing on that the baby just missed throwing up on by about an inch!
Equals:  Mommy awake in the middle of the night crunching numbers and anticipating what the next week
might be like..until the Holy Spirit gently reminds her of this song:

"When I am weak...You make me strong"

and this verse:

"Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself" Matthew 6:34

and this one:

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men"
Colossians 3:23
(even 100 loads of laundry and cleaning up vomit, etc. even if I too am sick).

Moral of the story is: Mommy's Middle of the Night Math doesn't add up.
I only need to focus on the number 1!
One true God, in control of everything..giving me strength and peace and his love!!!!

The White Stuff...It's a Blessing!!!

I love this picture...Liam is about 5 years old and Teagan is 2. Marc-well-just a kid at heart!
But look at it...really look at it...what is it about snow that makes us all want to lift our faces
towards the heavens, open our mouths and try to catch some of that white stuff!!!!!!

Even Caeleen, our youngest, who hasn't even played in the snow much, when I carry her to the car and it is snowing-automatically lifts her head, opens her mouth and receives the white stuff with joy!!!

Somewhere between kid freedom and grown up responsiblities the white stuff can become less of a joy and more of a burden. Instead of lifting our head to catch some we must scrape it off our car windows, shovel steps so others don't slip, clean the sidewalks for passerbys. Imagine the sweat I break into while getting 7 children into snow gear only to have to take it all off again in 10 minutes when they are ready for their hot chocolate!! It is hard work. Still white stuff-it hasn't changed-but our perspective has changed and so has what we do with it and how we talk about it.

White stuff....When we moved to Ohio I was a bit afraid of the white stuff. Too much white stuff. But today, as the trees and streets are blanketed with it, I'm reminded of the blood of Christ. Covering my sins, washing them away and making me clean and new-WHITE AS SNOW!! "Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow." Psalm 51:7

When I first became a follower of Jesus Christ this news-this cleansing-this becoming whiter than snow was received with such joy! I lifted my head to the heavens, opened my mouth to sing praises to God! As I have grown in my faith and continued my walk with him-sometimes it is hard work! I must try to "Do everything without complaining or arguing" Philippians 2:14. Even...scraping ice off windows and shoveling snow!

Today when I go outside I'm going to think about the cleansing blood of Christ-how he has covered me and made me white as snow. I'm going to rejoice and lift my head to the heavens and giggle as I try to catch some of that white stuff!!!!

Have a snowy blessed day!

Children are a Blessing!

Children are a blessing from the Lord…..
It is often said that “Children are a blessing from the Lord.” Sometimes I think people mean that children are a “gift” from the Lord. As in: a present. A wonderful thing. That in and of themselves-just by being given to you, they are a prize or reward of some kind. No further explanation needed! They are just a blessing. So Moms- feel blessed and be thankful for your children-The End.
What about when they disobey? Or when they have a tantrum? Or when they interrupt you 100 times during an important phone call? How thankful do you feel when they hurt one another with their words , actions or physical contact? Are you feeling blessed when they color on your walls? Slam bedroom doors? Refuse to eat the dinner you slaved over and tell you it looks “yucky”? Are they wonderful in and of themselves when they whine and scream “MOMMY!” from every room in the house but the one you are in? or when they pee down the heating vent-on purpose-to make you mad?

OH!!!! You’re awake now are you? Starting to get bored with my list until I threw that baby in, weren’t you!!!??
